Kindred Spirit- noun

Definition: “A person who has the same opinions, feelings, and interests as you.”

“Kindred Spirits” evokes the sensation of when we meet someone for the first time but somehow know they will become our best friend. There’s just something inside of us that knows we can trust this person.

While the relationship between a therapist and a client is not a friendship, it is still a really close relationship. A client has to feel comfortable enough with their therapist to be vulnerable, try new things, and know their therapist accepts them to make progress.

Research has shown the relationship between a client and their therapist is the top indicator of success in therapy.

So… You could say… Finding a “kindred spirit” in your therapist is essential.

Meet Ryann

Hi, I’m Ryann! I am an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) in the state of Alabama. I am currently under the supervision of Kaylie Pennington, Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor (LPC-S) while I finish getting hours for independent licensure.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I received my Master’s Degree in 2022 from the University of Montevallo. I spent the last four years in school settings; three of those years were spent working with high school students. My internship experience included working with college students in an outpatient setting and adults in an inpatient setting. I’ve enjoyed leading group counseling sessions as well as individual counseling sessions.

Together, we’ll dive deep in the sand tray, identify characters and stories you most connect with, and, if you’re ok with some mess, get gluey hands from making creative art projects… And all sorts of other creative interventions to explore the feelings, beliefs, and struggles that brought you to counseling.
