Kindred Spirit- noun
Definition: “A person who has the same opinions, feelings, and interests as you.”
“Kindred Spirits” evokes the sensation of meeting someone for the first time but somehow knowing we can form a close bond with them.
Research has shown finding a “kindred spirit” in your therapist is essential. The top predictor of success in therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. You have to feel comfortable enough with your therapist to be vulnerable, try new things, and know your therapist accepts you as you are to make progress.
Meet Ryann
Hi, I’m Ryann! I am an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) in the state of Alabama. I am currently under the supervision of Kaylie Pennington, Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor (LPC-S) while I finish getting hours for independent licensure.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I received my Master’s Degree in 2022 from the University of Montevallo. I spent the last four years in school settings; three of those years were spent working with high school students. My internship experience included working with college students in an outpatient setting, adults in an inpatient setting, and teens in an intensive outpatient setting. I’ve enjoyed leading group counseling sessions as well as individual counseling sessions.
Some of my training includes: Sand Tray (Level 2), Unmasking Autism for Teens and Adults, Play Therapy Techniques (Trauma-specific), Self-harm and Suicidality, and Role Play Table Top Gaming for Therapy (Intro).
Some things I do in session include: Sand Tray, Collages, Somatic Exercises, Bibliotherapy, Games (including a portable putt-putt that is surprisingly relevant in many situations), Relational Therapy, and Mindfulness. We will also bring in themes from your favorite media!
